Dune...or not.

Hi,

so last night the Sci-Fi Channel showed the UK premiere of the new "Dune" mini series. I have been a fan of the original movie and the book for many years (I read the book after seeing the movie though, I have to admit). As you can probably guess I was *really* looking forward to this new version, which is supposedly much closer to the book than the David Lynch version was (which is understandable - you can't put this whole epic into one movie, but a with a 6 hour mini series one can do that).

At 10 PM the thing started, Eike and I were sitting here, the VCR was running...and after roughly 47 minutes the screen went black. I thought "damn you, Sci Fi Channel!" at first, until I realised that no channel whatsoever was working! Telewest had completely broken down! Argh! I tried calling the helpline, but after being on hold for more than 40 minutes I gave up. Apparently many many other people were affected and tried calling, so at least we were not the only victims. So much for cable TV - the outage lasted for more than 2 hours.

Guess what we did? We watched the Dune movie. We had to! We were in a Dune mood! At least they're repeating it Wednesday night (even without commercials), so we *will* see it. Eventually...

Ciao,
-Andi
